Booking Terms & Conditions

  1. Booking Confirmation for Weddings & Handfastings
All bookings are made in good faith, based on the details provided by the client. A booking is considered confirmed once the deposit (or booking fee) has been received and acknowledged in writing.

  2. Changes to Scope or Cost
Once an agreement has been signed by both parties, no additional fees or changes will apply unless the client requests additional services. The Celebrant reserves the right to revise the fee if the agreed scope changes—such as an extension of time at the ceremony, or a change of venue. Any changes will be documented in a revised agreement as outlined in Point 1.

  3. Written Agreement
Once the booking form is signed, the Celebrant will confirm the terms of the agreement in writing—unless all terms, including fees, were already agreed upon prior to signing.

  4. Grace Period
Clients have a 14-day grace period following the date of signing to cancel the contract, for any reason, without penalty. A cancellation form will be provided but is not required—any clear written notice of cancellation will be honoured. It is the client’s responsibility to retain a copy of their cancellation notice for proof of timing.

If the client requests that work on the ceremony begin within the 14-day grace period, and the Celebrant has started preparing, the client may still cancel within that time but will be invoiced fairly for any work completed up to the point of cancellation.

  6. Deposit and Final Payment
Deposits are required at time of booking to secure date. applied to the final balance and may be non-refundable in the event of cancellation (see Point 10). The remaining balance is due no later than 30 days prior to the ceremony, unless otherwise arranged in writing.

  7. Travel & Fee Validity
The quoted fee includes travel within 30 km of the Celebrant’s home base. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of written confirmation. Travel beyond 30 km will be discussed at consultation, in cases of air travel, business class and accommodations will be expensed.

  8. Unforeseen Circumstances
Every effort will be made to fulfil the agreement, however, Sacred Steps cannot accept responsibility for non-attendance due to circumstances beyond our control (e.g., extreme weather, public service disruption, medical emergency). In such cases, a refund will be offered based on the specific situation.

  9. In Case of Illness
If the Celebrant becomes unwell or otherwise unable to attend, every effort will be made to provide a qualified substitute. All ceremony plans and documents will be shared with the replacement Celebrant. No additional fees will be charged for this transition.

  10. Cancellation Fees
Should the client choose to cancel after confirming a booking, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • 6 months or more before the ceremony: deposit is forfeited

  • 3 to 6 months before the ceremony: 50% of the agreed fee

  • 1 to 2 months before the ceremony: 75% of the agreed fee

Land Acknowledgement – Unama’ki / Cape Breton

With deep respect and gratitude, Sacred Steps acknowledges that the land on which we live, gather,

and hold ceremony is the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People.

This land, known as Unama’ki, is one of the seven traditional districts of Mi’kma’ki,

the homeland of the Mi’kmaq Nation.

We honour the enduring spirit, culture, and teachings of the Mi’kmaq,

and recognize their sovereignty and sacred relationship to this land, water, and sky.

In all that we do, may we walk gently, listen deeply, and act with reverence—

for the ancestors, for the land, and for the generations to come.
